High Impact Gifts and Creating Effective Giving “Portfolios”

Hope Neighbor

Every year, Americans give away approximately $230 billion to charity – and we rely on this giving to solve our most pressing social challenges. How can we make sure that our charitable dollars are doing the most “good” possible?

I am so grateful to Hope Neighbor for launching our salon-style programs for Catalytic Women. Over the course of the next six months, we will gather women in small forums with an expert on effective philanthropy. Hope has set the bar high for the rest of our speakers!

Hope shared her extensive insights on how Americans give, and offered ten tips for how each of us can “give better.” She knows her stuff! Her remarks come from her firm’s Money for Good research, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, the Aspen Institute of Development Entrepreneurs, the Metanoia Fund, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Money for Good analyzed the giving behaviors of 4,000 affluent Americans to answer: Why do we give? How do we give? And what is the opportunity to give more money to higher performing nonprofits? The full Money for Good report is available online.
